3D modelling

Corals
Poly count :70k
Now thinking of reducing the poly count by replacing it to textures. The environment that users cant see or walk through, i will textures but for the part that users need to pick up the corals. I will using the 3D corals, not the plane with coral textures anymore.

Improvement For my Stone

Poly Count :36
At first my stone was about 5k poly count. I tried to model it again and put textures to it. This is what i get. I will using this as my stone in my application.

I still working on those corals. I will upload it by Sunday night.

  1. since you need to populate your environment with more corals and different types of them, your current modelling method is definately too high. you will need to reduce them and put the detail in the texturing rather than the modelling.

you will need to build most of your corals with low poly and put the details in the texture. only those that user can interact will have slightly higher poly, but not until 70K per coral, thats just too high!

also you will need to refer to real underwater pictures of corals to create variety of them. just having reference from other application is not enough.

  2. even for most sea weed and some corals, you can use planes and texture it, and use alpha.
